This Filipino saying hits the nail right on the head. With the world in a recession, the OFW Saver’s Club is our best ally to caution off what could be the biggest blow to our migrant workers. This project for the sons and daughters of our modern day heroes will not only take care of the immediate problem besetting the world economy but will be a long time answer to the needs of the future.

On November 22, 2008, the first OFW Saver’s Club Caravan was launched at the Our Lady of Caysasay Academy in Taal, Batangas. The club members from the parishes of Taal and Lemery were in attendance. The parents of the club members came early to man the registration. The Holy Mass, officiated by Fr. Jerry Garcia, kicked off the affair.

Sr. Estrelle, from the host school, led the opening prayer and explained the agenda for the day.

The main part of the program was facilitated by Miss June Inabayan of LACMMI. The club members were divided into smaller groups to test their skills on budgeting. Four out of five came up with savings while the group that was given the biggest budget ended with nothing. Some of the adults in attendance also shared their insights on the values of saving.

Royal Wellness, Banco Batangan and Pinoy Pamilya Foundation, all partner agencies of LACMMI, were present to introduce the members to their visions for the migrants and their families. At the end of the morning, everyone was in agreement that a second caravan will be needed to be able to reach out to more members and their parents.
